Is it even necessary to say that we are beyond excited for this exhibit? We are beginning to transition the gallery for the Nic Noblique exhibit. Nic and his lovely wife, Audra, have been bringing sculptures by the gallery the past few weeks and it is no an easy task. A lot of these sculptures are HUGE (and not to mention heavy). We had to recruit 6 additional men off the street to help us haul these beauties in.

This is the third load and we still have two more to go. Can't wait for the show on September 2nd!

RISING Gallery with FGIIIART, is proud to present “Wonder Years,” a series of new works by The SourGrapes. “Wonder Years” will take you through the collective early years and the evolution of their lives as street artists turned fine artists. The show will feature a few early works by the SourGrapes 13 collective, as well as new works by Carlos Donjuan, Ricardo Oviedo, Artura Donjuan, Miguel Donjuan, Eddie Castro, Isaias Torres, and Emily Donjuan. The intent of the show is to dive into their pasts and show the cultural aspect involved with the collective and how their early influences have affected the growth of their work.

The SourGrapes are coming off a successful graffiti installation at the Dallas Contemporary that showcased works that paid homage to fellow graffiti artists that have passed away. Most recently they were signed by Neiman Marcus to produce the storefront windows for several of their locations.

The SourGrapes’ Dallas roots and loyalty are the soul of each of the artists. These influences are apparent in their particular styles in their graffiti work and fine art. They have developed a style that is gaining great respect throughout the graffiti and art communities. They have a respected presence throughout the region and their works are being seen more and more throughout the country.

The Sour Grapes graffiti works can be seen throughout Dallas in the numerous public works projects they have contributed to.

RISING Gallery is proud to present new paintings by Benjamin Pierce in the exhibition

Pierce’s Memorandum and Account Book. This is Pierce’s second solo exhibition

in Dallas at RISING Gallery.

After a highly successful show, The Leviathan and the Flea, in St. Louis, MO which featured some 70 pieces, Pierce has focused his attention on this new body of work. Pierce’s Memorandum and Account Book is a visual journal of the past 6 months of his life. He says, “For many, imagination is the only escape from circumstance. For those of us living in a world quick to snuff out wonder and promise, it becomes necessary to create those things for ourselves.”

Ben’s paintings, acrylic and collaged works on wood panel, welcome us into the resolutions of his surroundings. He strongly believes in the importance of the viewer to be able to find personal significance within each piece: “I hope that when you see a piece of mine, it instantly takes you back to a specific experience, good or bad, back to that person you had a crush on but never mustered up the courage to talk to, the person who broke your heart, the day when nothing could possibly go wrong, the day when nothing went right.

RISING Gallery has acquired new furniture pieces by Studio Wetz. The new 'Bryan Wetz Signature' series is a selection of chairs, side tables, and coffee tables.

This latest series of furniture is the first of many new designs aimed at the most discerning of buyers. The precision construction details, the solid woods (both domestic and exotic), and the premier finishes put the collection second to none. The entire collection is designed and handmade in Dallas, TX.

Bryan says, “after years of admiring and studying the furniture of Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and Gerrit Reitveld , to name a few, I set out to design a series of pieces reminiscent of the past greats”. Bryan’s continued research led him back to the designers of the past to investigate scale and proportion and how to change today’s perceptions of bigger is better. (3 Leg Chair shown to right)

Some of Bryan’s custom work has been showcased in Perspectives on Design Southwest, a coffee table book by Panache Partners. The 320-page publication features hundreds of vivid photographs of the region’s most stunning homes and the industry experts’ design inspirations, philosophies and perspectives. 3rd annual PINK fundraiser at Rising Gallery a Success!

Last Saturday, October 16th, marked the third annual PINK charity event at Rising Gallery & Advisory, raising money for the Sharon Wetz Breast Cancer Fund to benefit the Cancer Support Community of North Texas through a silent art auction and fashion show featuring designs by the students of El Centro College Fashion Program.

Response was phenomenal, and with over 60 artists donating their work to a great cause, there was a lot to offer event goers. There are still some fabulous donated artworks on display and available for purchase through the end of the month for anyone who was not able to attend the evening event; 100% of those sales will go to charity. All other artwork sold at the gallery during the month of October will have a small portion of sales proceeds donated to this great cause.

Sharon Wetz Breast Cancer Fund is dedicated to assisting families living with the difficulties that come with a diagnosis of breast cancer. The Cancer Support Community of North Texas offers emotional and social support services to cancer patients and their families.

JIM HASTINGS is a local artist who has exhibited his work in a variety of venues over the past eleven years. Hastings' work explores relationships - husbands and wives, children and parents, teachers and students, caregivers and the children over whom they watch - the building blocks of community. Hastings incorporates a personal lexicon of symbolism to illustrate the dynamics of people's social interactions with one another at their most instinctual level; conveying love, violence, joy, tragedy, immaturity, and wisdom.

JOHN SKIBO is a Brooklyn-based artist making his Dallas debut here at Rising Gallery. Skibo's series "Change of Context" revolves around the ways in which modern-day organization of housing affects community. When creating his paintings, Skibo reflects on the process of change within an environment, of how environment is recontextualized through building or demolishing structures and how these constant changes to landscape affect community and one's ability to interact with each other in a meaningful and sustained way.

Join RISING as we welcome and help host a great event, I AM WOMAN next Thursday, July 15, 2010, 7p-10p. This is sure to be a great event as it's an FGIII Art & McKane Organization Event. Frankie Garcia and Jeremy McKane have put a lot time & effort into making this event a great success and we are excited to have the opportunity to play host to a great event for a great cause.

Proceeds from a multi artist series within the exhibition will benefit Alley's House, a wonderful non-profit Dallas organization. Each of the participating local DFW artists donating to Alley's House series will create a 24" x 24" art piece based on femininity and the following attitudes:

FEMININITY referring to qualities uniquely attributed to women.
LOVE that drives the Artist to create.
BEAUTY in artistic creation and output.
PASSION imbued within the art.
POWER latent within the work, demanding respect.

The entire exhibition will consist of works by several prominent female artists from the Dallas area. The Alley's House series within the exhibition will be sold and 100% of the proceeds of that series will go directly to Alley's House. Kathleen's photography captures figures in serene, weightless, ballet-like movements underwater which oftentimes become abstracted by surface reflections to mesmerizing effect. Erykah Badu

There is some controversy arising in Dallas over the new Erykah Badu music video for her song, "Window Seat". It seems that some people are not too excited about her getting down to nothing but her birthday suit in the middle of the street in downtown Dallas, TX.

We can't help it, we love her. The music video is in true Erykah Badu style. Only she could look as strong and powerful as shes does while taking her clothes off in front of complete strangers in her home city. We also love the song.

If you love Erykah as much as we do, we have a piece at the gallery by one of our artists, Debbie Klein, with the words New Amerykah on it and signed by Ms. Badu. 15% of the sale will go to The Space which is supported by Erykah.

Pints for Paint

Last night we headed our for a fun filled night of beer tasting and pizza eating at Eno's Pub in Oak Cliff where an event was taking place called, "Pints for Paint". There was a small donation at the door that went to fund the paint supplies needed for the mural project in Oak Cliff. We were happy to be a part of the event and truly enjoyed the surprise karaokeing skills of many of our fellow art supporters. I am sure we will be headed back to Eno's soon for some truffle oil and parmesan cheese cheesy bread. We also discovered our new favorite local brand of cider which will go very well with the summer heat we know is coming.

RISING GALLERY TO OPEN PANATIER & WILKE SHOWS CONCURRENTLY

Dallas, April 30, 2010 — RISING Gallery announces its next exhibition featuring the works of Chris Panatier and Kathleen Wilke. The opening reception will be held April 30, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The exhibition will run from April 30 – June 5, 2010.

“In a world that seems to be swirling with any combination of catastrophe, deception, politics, war, and uncertainty a moment of truth is like a shelter you can always rely on,” states Panatier. This statement fully explains Panatier’s most recent series titled, “Love Them Now, Always”. Panatier finds moments of “truth” human facial expressions. Like a snap shot photo, Panatier’s oil paintings on wood panel display the emotion that can be seen in a human face through a candid moment.

Like Panatier’s work Wilke’s work also focuses on capturing a moment. “My work captures unique moments that only could be achieved with the magic water creates, the model’s effortless buoyancy, and the play of light and reflection,” explains Wilke. Unlike Panatier’s work, Wilke controls some elements of the moments she creates while letting nature take over the rest. Through her lens she creates moments that seem to be lost in time and cause the viewer to want to search for a moment in their life that could relate to her photographs.

In addition to the exhibition, Chris Panatier will be creating a painting on one of the Rising Gallery walls. This painting will be a temporary installation that will grace the walls presence only during the show dates. Like a moment in time, it will appear, only to disappear almost just as quickly. Be sure to come by and see the work as it will not be permanent and will only be viewable during the show dates.

Armory, Fountain, and Scope

This past weekend I went to The Big Apple to play in the amazing art festivities. Four art fairs and a little bit of champagne later I felt extremely inspired, and my feet told me to take a little rest. The Armory show was truly wonderful. I went on Saturday and it was packed, the booths were buzzing, and everyone seemed in good spirits. The weather could not have been better for the events. The entire weekend was sunny with a high of 50 degrees! The New Yorker's were out and everyone was happy to be in the city. On top of the Armory Show I went to Scope, Volta, Fountain, and a variety of smaller shows and just galleries in general. Here are some photos I took while wandering through the city. I hope you enjoy them.

Esteem Fashion Show

Yesterday I attended the Esteem Fashion Show. The event was the newest of The Elisa Project – it is a celebration of positive body image that was held in conjunction with National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. "The Elisa Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention and effective treatment of eating disorders through awareness, information, education, support, and advocacy. The Elisa Project was founded in 1999 by Rick and Leslie McCall in memory of their daughter Elisa McCall, a vibrant 20-year old college student who suffered with the pain of an eating disorder and ultimately took her own life. She recorded her struggle in a personal journal and its posthumous publication has inspired many in our community to join in combating eating disorders. The McCalls wanted to share the message that recovery from eating disorders is possible and that no one should have to suffer or recover alone."

"By helping to increase awareness about eating disorders and the importance of positive body image, ESTEEM encourages people to love themselves while striving to be healthy".

"Free Range"

Dallas, March 19, 2010 — Opening Reception from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm.
The RISING Gallery’s next solo exhibition opens March 19, 2010. Artist Jennifer Moreman brings "Free Range" to the gallery at 4631 Insurance Lane in Dallas. The exhibition will run from March 19, 2010 – April 24, 2010.

Working with natural subject matter, Jennifer Moreman, uses multiple, colorful, layers to give her work a new depth. Most of her work is comprised on a smooth solid black background causing her subjects to become more pronounced. The final product is whimsical, psychedelic, and sometimes mysterious.

Moreman starts very loosely with her brush and gradually begins to thicken her paint medium. Using her natural instincts as her guide in the placement of colors and brush strokes she builds color strategically. “I’ve always been very interested in my own intuition,” states Jennifer, “I like to see how my inner self can be displayed on the canvas”. What comes out of Moreman’s “inner self” is a series that allows for perspective to be seen in her subject matter using a non-conventional method.

Design Within Reach features artist, Chad Petersen, in a collaborative effort to expand RISING Gallery’s Art Off Knox.

Dallas, Wednesday, March 10, 2010 — Design Within Reach and RISING Gallery announce their next collaborative exhibit, featuring RISING Gallery Artist, Chad Petersen, at Design Within Reach. The opening reception is Wednesday March 10, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The exhibit will run from March 10, 2010 – April 22, 2010.

The exhibit will continue to expand Art Off Knox, which promotes the arts around the Knox St. area of Dallas, Texas by bringing businesses together. RISING Gallery will soon launch www.ArtOffKnox.com to keep people informed of upcoming events. “We are very enthused about getting more involved with our neighborhood,” stated RISING Gallery director, Jamie Arendt about the project, “we are constantly working to bring awareness of the arts community here off Knox Street”.

Chad Petersen is an Oklahoma-born painter who moved to the techni-color blunderland of Los Angeles, California to study art and painting at Otis College of Art and Design. He found his earliest influences back in the midwestern plains of Oklahoma, surrounded by endless horizons, and his mother’s hobby store landscape paintings. Petersen’s ideas are often sketched on a computer, with the aid of digital photo and illustration software, and the colors are usually imitated. They are sprayed onto the surface with the aid of a rig on tracks created by the artist to steady his hand as he glides down the length of the acrylic polymer coated panel. The process is part man, part machine, and for the most part, the artist and art never really come in contact with each other. This production process reads as cold and mechanical as it actually is. At first look, one feels drawn in, and seduced by the jubilant candy colors and lazy horizontal compositions. But as the gaze continues, and the viewer approaches the work, optical tension often creates eyestrain and fatigue, and forces the viewer to look away.

ART IN THE DISTRICT SATELLITE SHOW TO SHOWCASE ARTISTS FROM VARIOUS REGIONAL GALLERIES

Dallas, TX – January 26, 2010 – Just weeks after the grand opening of the first art gallery in the Dallas Arts District in three decades, Ross Akard gallery owner, Bryan Embry, and RO2 Art gallery owners and mother-and-son duo, Susan Roth and Jordan Roth, have organized Art in the District, a satellite art show offering exceptional pieces by nationally and internationally-known artists, alongside emerging and breakthrough newcomers from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Described by Embry as, “an enhancement to the well-established Dallas Art Fair (DAF),” the event will highlight work from various local galleries in event space donated by The Fairmont Dallas.

The idea to host a satellite show over the same weekend as DAF came up in casual conversation between Embry and Jordan Roth, who worked together on various Advocacy and Arts projects. Building upon a mutual passion for outlets that showcase local artists, using the world-famous Basel Art show, held annually in Switzerland, as inspiration, and with additional support from Susan Roth, the idea quickly manifested itself in the form of Art in the District.

“Having the show on the same weekend as the Dallas Art Fair is advantageous in numerous ways,” said Embry. “First, the location of DAF and The Fairmont Dallas creates a natural flow of traffic from one place to the next.” Embry continued, saying that Art in the District literally increases the space available to showcase art from local galleries. “Our goal is to expand upon the already substantial list of galleries showing at DAF and continue growing the breadth of familiarity Dallas galleries and regional Texas artists.”

Susan Roth and Jordan Roth’s tireless commitment to the local art movement fueled their determination to create a simple but powerful message about the importance of creating additional opportunities to highlight work in local galleries. “In most cities with national art fairs, there are satellite shows offering different perspectives to fairgoers,” said Susan Roth. “We have brought together galleries who represent works that show the diversity of the Dallas art market and vibrancy of the Dallas art community.” Participating galleries are Ross Akard, Ro2 Art, Mighty Fine Arts, Galleri Urbane, Decorazon Gallery, Dahlia Woods Gallery, Select Art and RISING Gallery

Entrance to the show is free for those who present their DAF ticket stub; a $5 suggested donation will benefit Big Thought – an organization aimed at providing quality learning experiences for children. A silent auction hosted by Emergency Artists’ Support League (EASL) will be held at Art in the District, with three works from very accomplished regional artists, including Rusty Scruby and Ellen Frances Tuchman.” EASL provides emergency funding to artists and art professionals in the Metroplex.

“I love both these charities because they support the next generation. Big Thought works to help keep the arts in public schools, which is hugely important in raising well rounded cultured adults.”

Dallas, January 20, 2010 — The Belmont Hotel announces its next solo exhibition "Backwater" featuring RISING Gallery artist Benjamin Purvis. The opening reception is January 20, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The exhibition will run from January 20, 2010 – March 3, 2010.

Benjamin Brantley Purvis grew up in the small town of Franklin, Tennessee, just south of Nashville. Soon after receiving his BFA in the major of Illustration at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL, he began painting in a style similar to that of Jackson Pollock. “This isn’t a style I studied, learned or emulated, but something I developed along the way,” Purvis explains.

Often painting in his outdoor studio at night under a blanket of stars, experimenting with hues, textures, oils and spirits, Purvis creates his signature pieces. The current series was created out of frustration with what he’d painted using his signature oils. Unsatisfied with what he had produced, Purvis threw the turpenoid used to thin his paints directly on the canvas. Later, while staring at the changed painting, he had a creative breakthrough. He picked up his palette knife and added sky and water to the piece. The resulting work became the first of a series, and the birth of a genre of abstract impressionism for which the emergent artist is increasingly recognized. In addition to employing his signature palette knife, Purvis’ process includes a unique combination of brush strokes and paint movement—flinging and flicking paint, along with a calculated spray of turpenoid on the canvas.

Nothing like a charity event to get you in the holiday spirit/ finish your holiday shopping! Last night at a warehouse off of W. Commerce St. local artists, musicians, volunteers, and art appreciators gathered to donate some money and walk away with some amazing artwork! The proceeds went to Resolana, which is:
"a community based nonprofit organization that provides holistic, gender-sensitive, rehabilitative programming for incarcerated women".

The night consisted of live music, live auctions, and beer drinking, in an unheated, but very lively space! If you didn't get a chance to go/participate this year, I certainly suggest you check it out for next year!

All of the artwork was created at the warehouse the day before the event. Such amazing work! So happy I could be there to see it!

The Space/ Erykah Badu

Hi Everyone!

This past we weekend we had the pleasure of helping out with an event at The Space to raise money for the community center. We also had the pleasure of getting to meet Ms. Erykah Badu!!! She was at the event creating two live paintings that were later auctioned off. She also autographed one of our artist's, Debbie Klein's, pieces titled, Tacos. Tacos is part of a series and for the next month we will be donating 25% of the sales of these pieces to The Space. We still have the autographed one if anyone is interested! It was amazing getting to spend the evening in the presence of Ms. Badu! I listened to her music all day at the gallery to prepare for the event. Come by and see the signed piece!

Ps. I apologize for the photos being a little blurry. They had Erykah moving around so much that it was hard to get a clear photo. I will update this with clearer photos in a few days once I receive them from the photographer!

I stepped out of the gallery for a brief moment yesterday and stopped by two galleries that had openings this past weekend. My first stop was at Marty Walker Gallery where I saw Obstacles featuring Eric Sall. Second stop, Craighead -Green Gallery where I viewed Origins featuring Marci Crawford Harnden, Edge 14 featuring JP Long, and Building Botero featuring Rich Bowman. Here are some photos! Hello All,

I think it is time that I formally introduce myself. I am Jamie Arendt, the new gallery director here at Rising Gallery. I will be the one updating the blog, keeping you updated with the gallery, and posting some photos of you when you come out to our events! A little background on me: I graduated with a degree in Art History, spent two years in Los Angeles, California, at Loyola Marymount University and two years living in Austin, Texas, while attending Texas State. I am a fan of both minimalism and chaos and the odd connection between the two. I am always looking for new art/artists for the gallery so feel free to email me at anytime. If you come into the gallery I may be jamming out to some Erykah Badu or The Dead Weather.....or the Raconteurs...or any band Jack White creates. I am very blessed to have found a position here at Rising Gallery. If you haven't been into the gallery let me just tell you there is no other gallery quite like it. Being built in an old recording studio it has a very unique shape and laid back feel. Thanks to Bryan and Taber Wetz's vision a recording room once filled with matted down turquoise shag carpet, yellow stained ceiling tiles from massing cigarette smoke, and dark wood zig zag paneling has now been turned into a fabulous space for a solo or group show......if you have been into the gallery you already know what I am referring to.

All and all I couldn't be happier to be here. I look forward to chatting and sharing with you. That's all for now. Nice to meet you! :)

He didn't bust out his break dancing moves.....but we are hoping that there is performance piece brewing for the future! Oh, and Ben is becoming a master in the sport of ghosting. RISING…a gallery Features “Soon Again”

Dallas, November 14, 2009 — RISING…a gallery announces its next solo exhibition "Soon Again" featuring artist Benjamin Pierce. The opening reception is November 14, 2009, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The exhibition will run from November 13 – December 30, 2009.

Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, Pierce was often confronted with the symbol of the black face lawn jockey. As “a firm believer in owning insults” he has used these images as the source of one of his series; working to deplete them of their negative connotations and power. A strong advocate that we must sometimes use our imagination to create our own world due to harshness of this world, Pierce invents a world of his own comprised of his own daydreams and stories he creates from passer-bys on the street.

There is no doubt that we are currently living in a world and economy full of uneasiness. These circumstances can often lead to one’s life being strained of encouragement and fascination. Using acrylic and mixed media on wood canvas Pierce’s work brings about a new lyrical world of bright color and playfulness through his innocent distortion of forms. His motto: “we are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams”, certainly shines through his work, which often incorporates references to musical imagery.

On Friday, September 4th from 6 to 10 pm RISING will open Wonderlust, the newest works by Chad Petersen and Debbie Klein.

Chad Petersen, of Los Angeles, California, is greatly influenced by Frank Stella, Elsworth Kelley and the bright city of Las Vegas. His paintings have shown internationally with Wonderlust marking his first major exhibit in Dallas. His striped paintings range in size from 22 inches to 12 feet in length.

Dallas artist Debbie Klein creates her signature "targets" through a meticulous lightjet process. Attending the Parson's School of Design, Debbie uses her extensive knowledge of color theory to create the intriguing color combinations occurring in her work.

Please join RISING on Friday, September 4th for the artist reception and opening of Wonderlust. Show will be on display through September 26th.

On Friday, August 7, 2009RISING Gallery will host "Phosphate", an artist reception showcasing the works of Gabriel Macias. Macias is an El Paso, Texasnative skilled in printmaking and graphic design. His passion for each has created this unique series of works featured in full for the first time at RISING Gallery.

Macias, mostly inspired by surrealism and minimalism, enjoys finding the abstract beauty in things that cannot usually be seen by the naked eye. He creates artwork to engage his audience and to make them look deeper into his works than they normally would. His complex visions create a captivating work in a less than traditional medium. Macias notes, "I do not carry heavy conceptual value to my work but instead I like for the viewers to create their own narrative about my artwork. I want my artwork to connect with every person differently and in the end create some kind of a bond between the viewer and the art."

Macias has tried all types of printing but focuses the majority of his works in lithography, woodcuts, and intaglio prints. Though drawing was always his forte, Macias found printmaking a medium that really pushed his skills beyond the traditional and into the realm of fine arts he would be able to share with his collectors and audience. Macias adds, "The great thing about printmaking is that I can always go back to an old drawing and pull another edition that will push the image even farther. Printmaking has opened up a whole new way for me to draw and I hope to continue to find new ways to make my work unique."

RISING Gallery announces the opening of save nikki the first solo exhibition of Dallas artist, Nicole Morrow. The Artist Reception will open at 6 pm-9:30 pm on Friday, July 10th. The show will be on display July 10- August 1.

Morrow works primarily in acrylics and is gaining national recognition from her emotional portraits. Nicole’s work is featured in the NYLO hotel in Plano, TX and has graced the pages of Time Magazine, Architectural Digest and several other national publications.

When asked why she chose “save nikki” as the title for her debut exhibition she answered, “I want to be understood. For me, painting allows me to speak volumes without actually saying anything. In that regard, I am “saved” from having to explain my internal complexities.”

Her current series of paintings depict Nicole’s understanding of the elusive and fleeting expressions related to solace, isolation, silence, reflection and introspection.

"save nikki" at RISING Gallery will include approximately 15 paintings ranging in size from 24 in. x 24 in. to 4 ft x 6ft.

I have received several comments regarding artists work being represented on the website, and honestly, between the three of us, sadly the website was the one thing that sorta fell off our map. HOWEVER, we have recently hired a company to manage our website and lonline sales for us. Soon we will not only have a functional website with artists pics, but we will also have an online store which will improve traffic, spread our name, and give world-wide exposure to our artists.

RISING GALLERY ANNOUNCES FRIDAY NIGHT AFTER-HOURS VIEWING OF BENJAMIN B. PURVIS’ “REFLECTIONS” EXHIBIT
ARTIST’S LATEST WORKS TO BE UNVEILED MAY 29

DALLAS, TX – Knox-area RISING Gallery announces a “Friday Night Viewing” of “Reflections,” the premier Dallas exhibit of abstract impressionistic works by artist Benjamin B. Purvis. Beginning at 5 pm on Friday, May 29, the gallery doors will remain open late—so the public can enjoy cocktails while meeting the artist who is becoming known in the art world for his unique style.

Purvis works primarily in oils and is garnering national attention for his textured, landscapes. RISING owner Bryan Wetz says, “We’ve had a lot of interest in this show and artist, and Benjamin Purvis just graciously agreed to let us hang his three latest pieces, which will be on display for the first time that evening. This particular series really highlights Ben’s aptitude in abstract impressionism. I don’t know how to describe it, but he paints vistas that people feel a real affinity for—it’s as if he’s captured something they have seen or known.”

The Reflections show at RISING includes approximately 25 paintings, varying in size from 4”x5” to a 4 ft by 10 ft. triptych. Prices range from $200 to $10,000.

Reflections Opening!

Thanks to all who came out for the Reflections show! We had so much fun enjoying the conversation and authentic cajun food so generously donated by the artist, Ben Purvis' family!

Who all got a bite of that gator tail?!?

Rising gallery had a sucessful night too. Not only did we sell a few pieces for our artists, but with your gracious contributions, we were able to donate a nice sum of money to our friend who was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma. Thank you everyone. It was much appriciated.

21st Century Vintage - Show Opening!

Thanks to EVERYONE who came out for the opening of our 1st Annual Juried Art Competition, 21st Century Vintage. We had SOOO many people come out to help us celebrate. Our headcount totalled over 300, and, jeez, did we have a blast!

Sadly, because it was so busy, I didn't get a chance to take any pictures. Luckily, Sandy Wright, Josh Judkins Mother, and artist in her own right, brought her camera and has graciously allowed me to post a few pictures she took.

The Prophet Bar is Displaying Our Work!

Many thanks need to go out to Joel Furth, the owner of the Prophet Bar/The Door in Deep Ellum, for inviting us to participate in their annual "Local Heart" event. This event is a one night bash that encourages creative minds to come together, display their art, meet fellow artists, and enjoy live music. It was last minute, but I picked out a few pieces to represent Rising and got the approval from the selected artists to display their work up at the Prophet Bar for the night.

So, last Thursday I got them all hung and schmoozed with the local art and music scene as we enjoyed live music, a video installation and stimulating conversation on where Dallas art is headed. I received a great number of questions (and compliments!) on the displayed work and it made me feel good that I had worked so diligently on getting Rising in.

At the end of the night, I spoke to Joy Hom, the Assistant Manager at Prophet Bar and she and Joel agreed to let the work hang for an entire month! This will get us some added exposure at a very active venue! I got the paperwork all typed up and signed that very next day!

We are so excited about the prospective clients the work will bring us. Here's two pics from the event. Sorry, the quality isn't ideal...but you get the gist. You should definitely head out to the Prophet Bar ( http://www.theprophetbar.com/) and see them for yourself! You're certainly in for a good time =)

Gallery Expansion update

The gallery is well underway in its expansion! We have completely gutted the recording studio space and are now mudding over the new sheet rock that was put up 3 days ago!

Within two weeks, we are hoping to have the expansion completed. This will give us an additional 600 sqft to showcase some AMAZING work!

We will be keeping you posted on its progress.

We know it's late notice but please be sure you check out Bryan's new paintings at Art251 this March!

Our March exhibit -  Temple of  Flora - signaling the imminent arrival of Spring kicks off today, March 6. The Opening Reception is this evening, March 6, from 6-9pm.
It’s free, there’s food and wine and soda, and best of all there’s some gorgeous new art from  Dallas artist Bryan Wetz. He’ll be with us as well.
Bryan’s work for this show features panels and canvases of single flowers, each composed in a subtle and unique way. You’ll see colorful irises, daffodils, roses, lilies and more (notice my limited botanical vocabulary). The exhibit runs until April 4, 2009.
We encourage you to come and see these fine, original paintings in the art251 gallery that has now become a spring garden (without the allergies), and to meet Bryan Wetz in person. In addition to being a talented artist, he is also an interior and retail designer (he designed our space), a custom furniture maker and an ex-Keller resident. Bryan is a product of the Oklahoma Arts Institute at  Quartz  Mountain and an alumni of  Oklahoma  State  University where he earned a degree in Interior Design.

URBAN Two Twenty Seven Opening

What a great time we had last night! We had such a spectacular turn out with both new and old faces, all of which were awesome to see. 3 of the 4 showing artists attended the reception and they were very pleased with the response they received on their work.

I think my favorite part of the evening was getting to see everyone's expression when they came in to see the new show. I believe everyone was very pleasantly surprised with our gallery and the collection of talented artists we have on display here.

We tried a new thing last night with mimosas, although I kept forgetting to offer them to people, so the majority of the guests sipped on wine and beer. Next time I will try to be more vigilant in offering the mimosas because now I have two jugs of orange juice that need drank. Anyone thirsty?

Also, we've been having a small problem with our emails. It seems many of you aren't receiving them...maybe they are being sent to your junk mail folder? Please e-mail us if you are having problems because we'd really like to resolve the issue so we can see you at our events!

Well, I need to get back to uploading event pictures to risinggallery.com website, so I'll touch base with everyone again soon.

Getting Ready for the URBAN Two Twenty Seven Opening

We are just SO excited about the opening of the URBAN Two Twenty Seven show this Friday. On Monday we recieved Ben Pierce's work from Missouri and started to hang it. In addition to Debbie Klein's rad work and Amanda Dunnavant's watercolors we're just so pleased! Maybe I'm the only one here who feels like a kid at Christmas, but honestly rotating and prepping for new shows is one of my favorite things to do at Rising.

I hope everyone can make it out. We are expecting a fabulous turn-out which can really only be made possible by your support! The event runs from 6-10 pm so there's pleasnty of time to drop in for a drink and a smile. See ya Friday!!

Hey Guys,

I thought Rising Gallery should start a blog to keep everyone updated and informed about our events, publications an just general fun.

Today I'm posting about our opening for Amorous featuring Kathy Kromer and Manuel Sarmiento. The show went off without a hitch and it couldn't have been done without the help from our wonderful friends and family. Kim and Tracy, that's you! Both Kathy and Manuel received gracious compliments on their work and we were pleased with our Thursday night turn out.
